While many know her for “Kelmti Horra”, an anthem of the Arab Spring, or “Holm”, it’s impossible to reduce Emel to these titles. The Tunisian-American artist has consistently released bold, groundbreaking albums that have found audiences around the world. Her latest, MRA, brings together 30 international women artists and producers, including Ami Yerewolo, Lyzza, Alyona, Camélia Jordana, and Jehnny Beth.

MRA — meaning “woman” in Arabic — is a pop/world/electro manifesto for female emancipation. All contributors—producers, artists, musicians—are women: often underrecognized, but rich in talent. The album blends African trap, batucada, Arab reggaeton, hip hop, and drum’n’bass with vibrant melodies and powerful lyrics.

This project crowns an exceptional career. Emel has made her mark globally—from performing at the Nobel Prize ceremony to featuring in Assassin’s Creed, and collaborating with Valgeir Sigurdsson, Robert Del Naja, Tricky, Vitalic, Barbara Pravi, and more.
